Connect is the official journal of World Federation of Critical Care Nurses. It is an online only journal, which is available free of charge to nurses world-wide. Four issues of Connect are produced annually, and the editors welcome contributions (author guidelines) covering any aspect of critical care nursing.
Purpose & Aims
The main purpose of Connect is to provide a forum for critical care nurses around the world to share good practice. It aims to be the voice of critical care nurses world-wide. One of its founding principles is that of support of the critical care nursing speciality. Connect aims to create a nurturing environment that enables all critical care nurses to have a voice. As such, the editors believe that all nurses have something valuable to contribute to Connect that others may learn from. For this reason, no articles are rejected on the basis of language, and the editors undertake to provide help to authors, especially those writing in a second language.
The main focus of Connect is clinical practice, and the editors are particularly keen to receive articles that describe or evaluate developments in nursing. The journal contains a mixture of articles, including descriptions of practice innovation, literature reviews, letters, conference reports, clinical skills guidelines, news items, research and, of course, information about developments in WFCCN.
Editorial Board
The editors of Connect are Paul Fulbrook (Australia) and Lynne Harrison (UK) - both of whom have many years’ experience in critical care nursing practice, education and research. The editors are supported by the associate editors: Birte Baktoft (Denmark), Sek Ying Chair (Hong Kong), Pat Moloney-Harmon (USA), Karl Øyri (Norway), and Ged Williams (Australia). Additionally, an international advisory board of prominent critical care nurses from all over the world supports the editors. Its geographical spread reflects the journal's international critical care nursing perspective.
More about Connect – What makes Connect different?
Making Connections is the central theme for the journal. The purpose of the journal is to facilitate international communication and collaboration on critical care issues, which are relevant to the critical care nursing community. The concept of making Connections embraces all of these ideas, hence the main title of the journal is Connect. The editors want to encourage discussion about critical care nursing and the journal provides a range of opportunities for nurses to communicate about their practice.
The aim of Connect is to be the voice of critical care nurses world-wide. In this context, the editors recognise the challenge of communicating in a single language and intend that no article should be rejected on the basis of language, and that all authors will be offered support from the editorial board. Furthermore, Connect editors are currently working with colleagues in Latin America and the WFCCN to develop the journal languages further. Over the next few years, it is planned to produce the journal in both English and Spanish.
Making Connections - The Connections theme is developed throughout the journal and there are several regular features, to which all critical care colleagues – from anywhere in the world - are invited to contribute:
- Clinical Connections (practice: ideas, development, review articles, news, information, support, equipment)
- Global Connections (world news, information, exchange programmes)
- Research Connections (research, abstracts, news)
- Conference Connections (conference news, reports, adverts, information)
